Experience Asheville from the water on the easiest river trip through the city! This scenic, 4-mile paddleboard adventure begins at Hominy Creek Park and gently winds its way through the heart of Asheville’s vibrant River Arts District. With calm waters and a mellow current, this route is perfect for beginners looking for a relaxed introduction to paddleboarding, as well as seasoned paddlers seeking a laid-back float.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the city, lush riverside greenery, and glimpses of local art installations. The trip ends at the Craven Street Bridge River Access, right in the center of the River Arts District. After your paddle, take time to stroll through art galleries, grab a coffee at a local café, or unwind with a craft beer at New Belgium Brewery. This is Asheville’s most accessible and enjoyable river adventure—ideal for anyone wanting to experience the city’s creative spirit from a unique perspective!

Shuttle Note: To make your trip seamless, be sure to set up a shuttle system with two cars—one parked at Craven Street to get you back to your vehicle at Hominy Creek. Alternatively, you can park at Craven Street and let us deliver your paddleboards to you there. We’re happy to give you a ride to Hominy Creek Park to start your trip, so you can finish back at your own vehicle without the need to set up your own shuttle system.

Horse Shoe Bend Access Area to Westfeldt Park Access Area

Distance from Asheville: ~25 Miles (35 minutes)
Trip Length: ~11 Miles (~4 to 6 Hours)
Difficulty Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Enjoy an 11-mile, wonderfully calm paddle down the French Broad River, from Horseshoe Bend River Access Area to Westfeldt Park (river miles 41.5-52.5).

This longer trip promises more of the river to yourself, away from the usual crowds. Start by navigating the scenic Horseshoe Bend, then glide past peaceful Mills River farmlands. The point where Mills River joins the French Broad is a great spot to take a break. Shortly after (around river mile 50), Mud Creek flows in, where MountainTrue and Conserving Carolina maintain two pre-bookable campsites for overnighters.

Finish your journey at Westfeldt Park, just minutes from Sierra Nevada Brewery—the perfect spot to unwind and refuel after your extended paddle! Always check conditions before you launch, and take breaks as needed.
